Every student I have taken on over the past 12 years has seen a grade improvement. In 2014- all 17 of my A level students received either A* or A grades; most having started from a B/C grade at AS level. All of my GCSE students also achieved A*/A grades.
I am a qualified and experienced tutor/lecturer in Biology and Chemistry with 12 years of tutoring experience and a huge alumni of past students working in all sectors from Medicine and Dentistry to MI6 and the West End stage!
Educated at Imperial College London in Biochemistry and Neurochemistry, and also a postgraduate qualified lecturer. I have worked in practical Biochemistry and also in the private sector for firms including Shell, Coopers/Deloittes and Penguin books. I am very familiar with the AQA syllabus and also teach the Welsh board WJEC syllabus. Not only do I teach the knowledge and understanding of the subject - but also the all important technique that needs to be applied to achieve the marks. I am hugely passionate about Biology and my students tell me that I pass on that enthusiasm to them along with a vastly increased confidence in the subject which they previously lacked!

THE DETAILS!
I teach individually or in small groups of 2-4 from my dedicated study classroom at my home in Heswall or via Skype sessions. Closer to the exams I run half day crammer sessions for each of the individual units and also a separate techniques session. Students have found these to be invaluable!
Please do not think that individual tutoring is the only effective way to tutor. Every year I do not have the space to accommodate the number of requests I receive (>520 in 2015!) and students who only want to use me a tutor often have to come in small groups. For the past three years - my groups of up to 4 students have all achieved A*/A grades - many having started from a C grade at AS level.
I can also assist with personal statements, UCAS applications (including medicine and dentistry), Oxbridge entry and also internship and job applications. I am happy to offer a test session for any potential student as your choice of tutor is very important! I receive hundreds more requests for tutoring than I can accommodate every year - mostly word of mouth referrals from previous tutees so do please book your slot as early in the year as possible.
I like to meet with all applicants before commencing tutoring to ensure that I can make a difference to their grade. I rarely take on students who achieve a U/E grade at AS level and I always interview D grade students first. I have taken some students from a D to an A grade but it heavily depends on the students natural ability and their work ethic. Do please call if you wish to discuss.
NEW 2 YEAR A LEVEL SYLLABUS COMMENCING 2015-2017
The new A level syllabus starts in 2015 with students only sitting exams at the end of two years study. In my experience, students with A/A* grades at GCSE completely underestimate the level of work required for A level. They only really discover they are not working at the required level when they get their first AS module results; it is at this stage - most students come to me! Until 2014, they had the chance to step up their work ethic and also resit the AS level to improve their grade, however, with the new two year syllabus - this option is now gone and students will no longer get this 'wake up call'. I would prefer any students considering tutoring to START tutoring sessions with me at the start of the A level course. Most of the way through the A2 course is too late to redeem your grade!
